Things for kids to do in Carleton Place

293779_532381083489459_694330316_nThis list was prepared in answer to a concern from a parent who said there was nothing for kids to do in Carleton Place.  Unfortunately, the email address she provided did not work – maybe she’ll read this here!

  1. Does your child play on a hockey team – we have them for all ages?
  2. Does your child take part in public skating sessions – we have four public skating sessions a week as well as free skating provided by Tim Hortons?
  3. Does your child play pick-up hockey or just skate on the three outdoor rinks in town?
  4. Does your child play road hockey?
  5. Does your child take part in the Junior Curling program at the Curling Rink?
  6. Do you and your child participate in Parents and Tots skating – we have two sessions a week?
  7. Does your child take lessons at the Carleton Place pool?
  8. Does your child take part in public swims, including ones sponsored free of charge by Tim Hortons?
  9. Does your child swim at the supervised beaches at Centennial and Riverside Parks?
  10. Does your child play at the splash pad at Riverside Park?
  11. Does your child go to the Carleton Place Youth Centre which is open daily?
  12. Does your child participate in the Recreational Youth Program offered at Carambeck School?
  13. Does your child walk, jog, or bike along any of the 8 trails we have in the community?
  14. Does your child play on the playground equipment, toss a Frisbee, kick a soccer ball, or just hang out at any of the 16 public parks we have in Carleton Place?
  15. Does your child take part in any of the canoeing and fitness programs at the Carleton Place canoe Club?
  16. Does your child belong to the Navy League?
  17. Does your child belong to the Carleton Place Soccer Club?
  18. Does your child participate in a baseball or softball league?
  19. Does your child belong to the tennis club?
  20. Does your child belong to the public library?
  21. Does your child attend any of the free programs at the public library?
  22. Does your child access the free computers and WiFi at the public library?
  23. Does your child visit the museum?
  24. Does your child walk or run the Labyrinth?

  27. Does your child attend the free outdoor concerts at the Train Station every Wednesday in July and August?
  28. Does your child attend the free programs offered by our Community Co-ordinator such as the MuchMusic Video dance?
  29. Does your child play in the Carleton Place and District Community Band?
  30. Does your child participate in the Mississippi Mudds Youth Drama program?
  31. Does your child belong to Sparks, Brownies, Girl Guides, Beavers, Cubs, or Scouts?
  32. Does your child take part in any teams or clubs organized through their school?
  33. Does your child volunteer for any town services, businesses, support groups, or service clubs in town?

All these activities are listed in the 2012/13 Recreation and Culture Directory which was delivered to each home in town in the fall and is available on line, and in public buildings such as the Arena, Pool, Town Hall, and Library.

Most activities listed are free, but any child who has a financial need preventing them from participating or obtaining equipment, can receive assistance through Service Clubs.
